As we continue on with the school year, here’s some notable memories we’ll take with us from this year’s homecoming events.

#1 – Edgren triumphed over the Commuters in the tug of war tournament
After three straight rounds, the burly commuters started to feel the burn during the third-place match against Edgren. They put up a good fight, but Edgren pulled and pulled, making the biggest comeback of the week. The very foundation of Bethel shook underneath the Robertson Center gym’s floorboards as the other dorms cheered for the Eddies, who were buzzing with adrenaline and confusion at how they pulled off this win. They went on to compete against Heritage for the final match, and ended up with a second place title under their belt.
#2 – The North Village men’s dance coaches participated in the dance
Five men are required to participate in the dance in order for a dorm to compete– so North made do with what they had. Olivia Dahl, Madison Stevens and Rosie Hecht took it upon themselves to get their groove on with the three men participants, showing up in their uniform of gray sweatpants and trucker hats. The women used their dance skills to do more complicated dance moves, stealing the show from the men of North.
#3 – Bodien made a clean sweep of the dodgeball tournament
Dodgeball is one of the competitions that’s really anyone’s game — and this year, it was Bodien’s. A sea of blue overtook the Sports and Recreation Center stands at every Bodien game, including RAs decked out in blue morph suits to demonstrate dorm pride. Edgren and Getsch chanted choruses of “For the hill,” as Arden Village stayed to cheer on Nelson. The Bodieners dodged, ducked and dipped to win the final round against Nelson after an almost-undefeated streak.
#4 – The men of Bethel griddy-ed their nerves out pre-dance competition
Getting hype before any homecoming event is a must-do at Bethel, and the men’s dance competition was no different. As the bleachers were swarmed with students like ants to food, the participants of the AV men’s dance started a griddy train circle around the gym, getting everyone rowdy and excited for the night’s events. Bodien RA Peter Kraakevik wowed the crowd by acting out a dramatic scene including a broken leg and the stankiest stanky leg known to man. The Lissner men got the crowd counting “1, 2, 3, 4 …” as four of them lifted junior Michael Murphy from all four limbs, then got the other dorms in on a squat competition, including some Getsch men sitting on top of their teammate’s shoulders.
#5 – The AV baby was honored by their cheer & powderpuff flag
The new RD of AV Tori Robinson and her husband have a ten-month-old son named Asher, and there was no way the residents could leave him out of homecoming festivities. Even if he wasn’t able to be present in all of the action like Bodien RD Abby Woodley’s new puppy, Asher was represented in the AV cheer, as well as making an appearance at the powderpuff tournament Thursday night as part of a double-sided AV flag. One side showcased the red and black AV logo, and the other depicted Asher photoshopped onto a background of fireworks, with the text “AV BABY!!!” to caption the image.
#6 – Heritage rewound the clock to our childhoods with a Little Mermaid scene
Picture this: it’s 1989. “The Little Mermaid” has just come out in theaters. “Kiss the Girl” starts playing on the big screen. Oh wait – you’re in the RC gym, watching the Heritage men’s dance. A beautiful serenade choreographed by juniors Maddie Koenig and Kylie Nybakken, performed by senior Toby Ryberg and junior Trevor Wellman received large applause from the audience, complete with a line of men forming a boat for the star couple, Harrison Nistler and Jordan Axberg, with “ROWBOAT” spelled out on their backs.
#7 – Geetha was the real star of cheer night
Multiple dorms used the same photo of Geetha Peters, the Dining Center employee that Bethel knows and loves, as a part of their cheer night props. Getsch held the image of Peters up on their stolen dining center trays, while Nelson depicted her face on a single poster and sang her name to the tune of the Doxology. Whatever way she was represented, Bethel students made sure to demonstrate how much of a beloved part of the Bethel community Peters is.
