Prepping for Pull-a-Print

Art and design club promotes their spring event

Art and design club co-leader Hannah Brue wanted to be a part of an art club in college, so she decided to make this an option for other students too.

Brue talked with art and design office coordinator Julie Thoreen, who suggested combining with existing design club. Since the club was already established and Brue would be expanding it, the department supported this suggestion.

“I was looking at the board of clubs that BSG funds and they’re all sports related or major related, but there wasn’t a single one for art,” Brue said. “So I was like, ‘We have to change this.’”

Starting next school year, the club plans on hosting monthly events involving a variety of activities from design workshops to painting nights. Brue also brought up the idea of shack take-over, which would bring art events into the dorms and get the word out about the club.

“A lot of people are looking forward to getting more involved next year,” sophomore Rebecca Hed said.

Graphic design professor Jessica Henderson recommended the Pull-a-Print event since it has been done in the past.

“It wouldn’t be super complex and it would be a great way to be in the heart of the school,” Brue said.

Art students were asked to submit designs in a contest to decide which ones would be printed at the upcoming event. The few that were chosen fit a summer theme.

Each poster costs one dollar and students will be able to mix and match their own designs. Four screens serve as background designs and an additional four screens contain distinct imagery.

“Go to Pull-a-Print ‘cause it’s dope,” sophomore Josh Eller said. “I have some designs in it that are also kinda dope.”

The students planning it and helping out are usually art majors or minors, but all are welcome to attend the event and create a poster.

“Don’t feel like you need to be a pro,” Brue said. “If you can only draw stick figures, please come to our events. They’re for you.”

Brue encourages people to come ask questions and learn more about the club.

“Take a step away from the homework and have fun with art,” Brue said.

Students can purchase posters for one dollar at the Pull-a-Print event tomorrow, April 23. This will be held in the Brushaber Commons between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
