Bethel University’s “Cinderella”: A humorous take on the classic fairytale

Bethel University’s “Cinderella” smashes typical stereotypes for operas. Instead of the classic but over-told story we all know, the Bethel University theatre department put on a production that showcased humor and introduced hilarious new characters.

Where there would usually be a brooding and cold stepmother, Bethel’s version featured a silly and conceited stepfather, Dom Magnifico played by Chad Hart.

Magnifico’s first appearance brought the audience to laughter almost immediately when he emerged from his room holding a small donkey stuffed animal, whining about how his daughters interrupted his amazing dream.

Magnifico is one of many characters that brought hilarity to the show that the Disney version of “Cinderella” never offered. If you want a version of “Cinderella” that features gorgeous voices and absurd comedy, then look no further.
