It’s almost spring, but with more snow in the forecast, here are 20 songs to get you out of bed when it’s below freezing outside.
- “Snowshoes” by Caamp. Romanticize the blistering weather with this sweet, folksy tune. Maybe it will inspire you to plan a winter camping trip. If not, it may at least warm your cold, seasonally depressed heart.
- “Idiot Wind” by Bob Dylan. Windchill of negative 23? Yeah, Minnesota’s own, beloved Dylan can sympathize with this lyrically poignant, seven-minute ballad. You’ll find yourself singing the lyrics constantly in idle moments throughout the day.
- “Cover Me Up” by Jason Isbell. Isbell says “It’s cold in this house and I ain’t going out to chop wood.” Safe to say he gets it. If you only listen to Morgan Wallen’s cover of this tender song, you can stay frozen.
- “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson. A cozy tune about sleeping in on a rainy day. Don’t be afraid to hit that snooze button just one more time. You deserve it.
- “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan. Justify how mean you are by explaining that you were raised out in the cold. Any avid Kahan listener or lifelong midwesterner will know what you mean.
— Laura Hunt
- “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd: I’ve never related to song lyrics on such a personal level.
- “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas: I went to California over J-term break and it was the worst decision of my life. It made me realize that normal people don’t voluntarily choose to live in negative 15 degree weather. Not to mention, the lyrics describe the exact scenery of my eight-minute walk from North Village to the buildings.
- “Wondering Why” by The Red Clay Strays: I’m wondering why I’m not in bed. I’m wondering why I’m driving to my 7:40 a.m. only to spend an hour and 15 minutes watching movies and I’m wondering why school is never canceled.
- “Shower” by Becky G: Showers are my survival. Three a day to be exact. It’s the only way for my body temperature to revert back to normal. Not to be dramatic of course.
- “Nothing” by Bruno Major: I have nothing more to say, nothing more to give. The cold takes it all from me. I’m dreaming of summer, I’m dreaming of shorts, I’m dreaming of better days but right now I have nothing.
– Taylor Hanson
- “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher. If Phil Connors can wake up to this song every morning in a time loop in “Groundhog Day,” so can you.

- “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore. It’s the perfect hype-up song to get the adrenaline pumping and the blood flowing. There’s a reason it’s played at every party.
- “Could You Be Loved” by Bob Marley and the Wailers. The epitome of sunny, warm weather and waves on the beach. While your body might be suffering the bitter cold, your mind will be blissfully elsewhere.
- “Looking Out For You” by Joy Again. It’s cute, it’s romantic, it’s upbeat. Everything you need to get out of a drowsy daze.
– Rachael Van Rossum
- “Gitchee Gitchee Goo” by Phineas and the Ferbtones This song is a childhood memory that will wake you up in seconds. Feel warm inside after listening to this catchy classic bit of nostalgia.

- “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” by Hannah Montana. It’ll wake you up in seconds. You’ll be dancing before you even realize you’re awake.
- “Just Like Fire” by Pink. A peppy and positive way to start your morning. No better way to wake up than with a girl power anthem.
