Cheryl Bostrom does not support Donald Trump. But leading up to the election, she prayed that he would win.

Bostrom is adjunct faculty and an alumna from the Bethel graduate school. Her husband, Matt Bostrom, is the Ramsey County Sheriff. This past year he has combated biases, oppression and threats due to the issues regarding police brutality.

He recently received an acceptance letter from Oxford University to research how law enforcement interacts with the community. Bostrom appreciates Trump’s declared support for law enforcement.

“Hearing him speak (about) respect for law enforcement is a huge encouragement,” Bostrom said.

And although she may not think he is a godly man, Bostrom finds solace in the fact that he surrounds himself with advisers who are, especially Mike Pence. Her vote also relied heavily in the prospect of a supreme court justice who aligned with her values. She favored Trump’s potential candidates over Clinton’s.

“That impacts our families greatly based on the second amendment,” she said.

Despite the fact that she does not support most of his core values, Bostrom will continue to pray throughout Trump’s presidency.

“I was able to vote for him because I wasn’t voting for a pastor,” Bostrom said. “God is ultimately on the throne.”
