Bethel implements new parental leave policy
Susan Brooks sits in her office at Luther Seminary where she works as the Director of Faith + Lead Academy. Brooks began working at Luther in 2022 after deciding her time at Bethel was coming to an end, and has found comfort in a workplace open to a wide variety of Christian viewpoints. “That was the biggest shift that I saw … that there was not a commitment then to that open conversation in the middle,” Brooks said. “There was really a shift to more, like I said, safe boundaries.”

The Royals took the first win of the season ending with a final score of 4-0. “The first game is always a little chaotic, a little crazy. Now we can calm down and exhale,” head coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec said.

He’s been playing baseball for as long as he can remember. “Going from football to baseball is pretty challenging,” Isaac said. “Especially hitting, because you don’t get to see any pitching and you jump into a game.”

The women’s team has been breaking records all season and the athletes were excited to compete on their home track. “Kelsie always tells me, ‘You being stressed means you care,’” Swenson said. “‘If you weren’t stressed then I’d be concerned.’”
Four laps, four girls, one team
reshman pitcher Jackson Hunter’s teammates greet him following his relief in the seventh inning of the MIAC Championship. Hunter tied his career high in innings (seven) and threw a career high with nine strikeouts to win the Royals their third straight conference title. “We’ve been through a lot this season, faced a lot of adversity,” Hunter said. “At one point we didn’t think we’d be here. Now we’re winning it — it’s special.”
