Bethel implements new parental leave policy
Susan Brooks sits in her office at Luther Seminary where she works as the Director of Faith + Lead Academy. Brooks began working at Luther in 2022 after deciding her time at Bethel was coming to an end, and has found comfort in a workplace open to a wide variety of Christian viewpoints. “That was the biggest shift that I saw … that there was not a commitment then to that open conversation in the middle,” Brooks said. “There was really a shift to more, like I said, safe boundaries.”

The women’s team has been breaking records all season and the athletes were excited to compete on their home track. “Kelsie always tells me, ‘You being stressed means you care,’” Swenson said. “‘If you weren’t stressed then I’d be concerned.’”

reshman pitcher Jackson Hunter’s teammates greet him following his relief in the seventh inning of the MIAC Championship. Hunter tied his career high in innings (seven) and threw a career high with nine strikeouts to win the Royals their third straight conference title. “We’ve been through a lot this season, faced a lot of adversity,” Hunter said. “At one point we didn’t think we’d be here. Now we’re winning it — it’s special.”
Early loss gives way to offensive eruption
Ty Koehn got the start on the mound for the Royals Thursday night against Saint John’s, surrendering seven earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Koehn posted a 3.71 ERA across five starts for the Royals in the regular season.

The Return of Intramurals

Students enjoy playing volleyball and basketball on weeknights in the Robertson Center.

Intramural sports are back in full swing for the spring semester. Basketball began on Feb. 19, taking the Robertson Center gym for Monday and Wednesday nights, while volleyball began on Feb. 22 taking the RC gym on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The intramural season will end in April.

Fifth-year Kayla Simacek has been playing softball since childhood. Pitching is Simacek’s passion — she loves the sport because of her coach and the team that’s become her family. Despite a few losses this season, the team still picks each other up and gets right back on track. “I think it was good that it happened in the middle of the season, Simacek said, “Because we can fight through a little bit of adversity and come back stronger.”
