Budget cuts, grammar and club inactivity procedures

Student Senate met Monday. Here is what you need to know.

By Molly McFadden and Molly Wilson

New Student Senate budget

Due to budget cuts across BSG, the Student Senate proposed Bill 64-2, which presents a smaller budget than in most recent years. The bill passed 8-0, making the 2022-23 Student Senate Budget $22,500. A $17,500 decrease from the $40,000 2021-22 budget. In the new configuration of the budget the Student Involvement department has $0. Senate Finance Committee Chair Duncan Harro noted that any funds needed for Student Involvement could be requested from the general budget of $10,000. Historically, the general budget has been used for maintenance of the ice rink, student theater tickets, extra funding for Student Activities when needed and more.

Grammar and formatting inconsistencies

Two resolutions were submitted that, if passed, will amend the BSG Constitution (Resolution 64-4) and BSG Operations Manual (Resolution 64-5) to solve various grammatical and formatting inconsistencies. The documents have been shared with Senators so they can read corrections through and then deny or approve all corrections in bulk.

Club inactivity Procedures

Resolution 64-3 proposes a change to the BSG Operations Manual to show that the Executive Director of Clubs and Organizations will have the power to declare a club inactive. If a club desires reactivation they now must all go through the same process through Student Senate no matter how long the club has been inactive.

Special Elections

A special election was held to admit a new freshman senator.
