Bethel University students worship during chapel service, Wednesday Sept. 25, 2024. The “Come and See” Chapel series is a deep dive into the Gospel of John, beckoning students to experience the fullness of the Lord. “For the first time, at Bethel, the entire community is studying the Gospel of John. We’re doing the same thing, talking the same language, pursuing and asking to hear from God using the same content. It unifies our campus in a unique and neat way,” campus pastor, Nick Cocalis, said.

The Royals 2024 record now sits at 8-2 after falling 41-33 in the MIAC championship game to St.John’s University. “I was just proud of our guys battling, and came up short,” Bethel head coach Mike McElroy said. “And got to find ways to make plays and big stuff happen, and we made one less big play today than they did.”

Women’s hockey team wins back to back

The Royals started their first 2-game win streak of the season.

Four Bethel University players scored, including two goals from sophomore forward Bri Stafne, in a 5-2 win over Northland College at the Bethel University Arena in Blaine. The Royals beat Northland 4-0 the night before. 

“We came into the second down by a goal and we all knew what we needed to do,” said Stafne, who scored in both the second and third periods.

Freshman goalie Emily Auge made 34 saves on 36 shots in her first win of the season.

The Royals head into next weekend’s home-and-away series against Saint Benedict with a two-game win streak. 

“Keep the momentum coming,” Stafne said. “We haven’t won two games in a row, it’s exciting for all of us girls to feel that.”

Junior defensive back Matt Jung returns his nation leading sixth interception during the second quarter of the Royals 73-8 win over Augsburg University on Saturday Oct. 22. Jung currently leads the Royals in tackles (27) and interceptions (7) in 2024. “I definitely could say I’m more of a leader this year,” Jung said. “I feel like guys listen to me more now, after I’ve been here a whole season. But at the same time everyone’s making plays.”
